Take a break from gravity. Flourish in a dangerous solar system, where psychotic apes from Mars are raiding the Earth for resources. Accelerate interplanetary economy by riding a rocket in simulated physics. Find your resonance between planetary movements and accelerating competitive cheese trade.
"Cybernetic mice and cheese in space. What's not to like?"
You are the first human to launch in a rocket since the AI Exodus, many generations ago. Your personal AI companion, Olli, is helping you steer and understand rocket physics. The Earth, abused by accelerating trade, unlimited capitalism and nuclear war, is nearing 16.7 degrees above the ancient Paris Accords.
The ice is gone, water abundant and life is going extinct across the shrinking landmasses. A few thousand remaining humans are desperate to get out, but forced to stay until they fix the problem they created, or die trying.
You've had enough.
Now, you are breaking the treaty that forced your parents and grandparents to produce for the Machine, before it fractured and left the planet. Your species was left behind, deemed unfit for cyberization and hive-minding, with other physiologies more fit for the hostile environments.
You escaped your caves and crystal palaces, and found an old rocket on a launchpad. You load a program to teach you how to fly. Above you, a glittering piece of crystalized cheese is in orbit of Earth in front of the Moon, at Lagrange 2.
You are about to take a break from gravity.
Gravity Break isn't just a game about rocket physics. It’s an absurdist game about cheese.
You see, cheese weighs a lot, but contains a lot of calories. This makes it a surprisingly efficient commodity when navigating between planets, where cybernetic rodents trade cheese from terraforming cows on the moon.
In this single-player space freelancer adventure, you are in the cockpit of a small rocket. Physics is the foundation of everything you do.
Humanity has been made redundant by AI and forced to retreat to caves and secure domes on Earth. But you’ve had enough of video games and hard labor – you want to be a part of the real world.
On your journey, you will meet:
Gravity Break is a passion project echoing classics like Escape Velocity (1996), but with modern physics and speed, and a blend of absurdist hitchhiking species of critters. By supporting the game now, you help shape a universe where we learn to understand interplanetary economics and physics through intuition and curiosity.
Roadmap:
Will you get rich and powerful while burning the planets behind you? Or will you help the refugees of Old Earth find their place among the stars?
